We entered the Crystal Caverns with exciting trepidation. We came out playing not on our tablet, but our mobile device.
Dungeons & Dragons: Crystal Caverns mobile slot is not without its charm. Fans of the fantasy series and games will certainly be the first to open up this older looking IGT slot machine. Unfortunately the graphics do let this game down. Considering the fantastical theme, it’s a shame this mobile slot looks like something out of a bad 80’s cartoon. In fact it looks like the original 80’s Dungeons and Dragons TV series, which is no compliment, we assure you.
You get an elf princess, a couple of rugged warriors and a host of crystals to give you winning paylines.
But the symbol you’ll have your eagle eyes set to find is the shield symbol with ‘Bonus’ written on it. It set’s up the free spins round, which gives you 6 free spins with a 1x multiplier. Unimpressed? So were we.
What we’ve failed to mention of course, is that the main feature of the Dungeons & Dragons slot game is not, in fact, the free spins, but the tumbling reels, which make any winning combinations disappear and get replaced by more symbols. It’s like mini free spins every time you win and is similar in look and feel to Da Vinci’s Diamonds mobile slot. So during the free spins round itself, you might only get 6 free spins, but with every win the reels give you one more little free spin of its own.
Unfortunately, Diamonds are clearly more valuable than Crystals, because unlike the Da Vinci Diamonds slot, D&D is even lower in variance. This means that you will get more wins, but the jackpot amount is smaller and less impressive. Considering this, you’ll still need some decent cash to burn your way through the D&D mobile slot until you hit a decent win or two.
This mobile slot is for slot players who want to walk down the 80’s memory game and play on their mobile device, because the graphics are not of good enough quality to really be enjoyable on the iPad or tablet. You can get a few decent wins, but if it’s tumbling reels you are after we would head over to Pixies of the Forest mobile slot for some far harder hitting wins.

Wilds: The Highly decorated Wild Engraving is the wild symbol, replacing all symbols except bonus.
Tumbling Reels: The best feature about Dungeons and Dragons slot machine, it is also the feature that will get the biggest wins. Every time you win, the winning combination of symbols will disappear from sight (as if by magic) and the symbols will tumble down, with other symbols coming in to replace them, potentially giving you bigger wins.
Free Spin Bonus: Considering that free spins are usually whats best about IGT slots, we were disappointed to find that this feature is not only incredibly elusive, but when it comes, it doesn't come with as big an impact as you would expect. We got much bigger wins during the main game and the tumbling features. That said, because of the tumbling feature, 6 free spins do turn into a far longer experience than expected and they are re-trigerable, up to an impressive 300 times. What are the odds of that happening? Try throwing five 8 sided dice and getting snake eyes on each.
To be honest, this mobile slot is unimpressive when you first open it up. When on smaller devices, such as smartphones, the lack of beautiful graphics is less obvious, and fans of the fantasy series might enjoy going back to a retro D&D feel.
That said, this IGT Dungeons & Dragons mobile slot has it's perks. The tumbling reels do pay out relatively often, allowing for longer game play, as this is probably one of the lower variance slots from the IGT range.
However, if we were looking for lower variance slots with tumbling reels, we would probably pass this slot completely and head straight to Gonzo's Quest, which at least has a chance of bigger wins and the game play is far more exciting with more multipliers.
Sorry D&D, you're ok, but just not quite good enough.
