What is this mobile slot about?

A simple Microgaming game that embraces the glamour of the movies, we welcome you to old Hollywood with the Golden Era mobile slot.

Aaaah yes… the golden era of films, where beautiful icons of the screen made us swoon with thrill and anticipation with each dance number.

Shame, then, that this Microgaming slot game is not as charismatic as it’s two main leads.

A slow build up towards the scatters

We spun almost 500 spins without hitting 3 scatters. 2 scatters? Absolutely. Time and time again.

Then we hit 3 scatters again within 20 spins of each other.

The Golden Era slot game is a little like an old fashioned movie; it can take a while to get into it, and if the action doesn’t come quickly enough, it wont compare to fresher, livelier modern gems – like the Machine Gun Unicorn slot comes to mind.

But you’ll need those scatter to trigger the two bonus features.

The 15 paylines and 2 bonus features in the Golden Era video slot

Ultimately, what players will love is the simplicity of it all, and the beautiful graphics and sounds.

It reminded us, in fact, very much of the Riviera Riches mobile slot, with it’s angular people, soft glow and 15 paylines.

But, whilst that one had two bonus triggers, the Golden Era game only has one; once you catch three scatters you get a choice of either free spins or a click me feature.

Which of the two bonus features is the best?

Honestly, both seem to pay (or not pay) equally the same – about 50x to 80x your bet with a little luck.

For us, the free spins are more exciting. In fact they are the most exciting part of playing on the Golden Era slot machine.

You get two reels, fully wild, wandering from one side of the screen to the centre, where our lovers meet in a final embrace.

Yet, it doesn’t save this mobile casino game from falling into Microgaming obscurity. After all, we can’t help but feel that in The Invisible Man slot game we get wandering wilds in both directions in the base game, as standard.

Can you win decent amounts here? Yes. Are we likely to play this game over other Microgaming games like Game of Thrones?

Honestly? Probably not.

In-game bonus features

Wild Symbols: The Golden Era slot logo is wild and replaces all other symbols except scatter.

Scatters and Bonus Features: Get 3, 4 or 5 scatters and you'll trigger the bonus feature.

Here you'll pick from two possible choices:

  1. 12 free spins with embracing wilds: The male and female actor are wild and start on reel 1 and 5 on the first spin. They will then move to reels 2 and 4, and finally embrace on reel 3 and give you a 2x multiplier on a win.  They will then go back to the original position and start again till the end of the rounds.
  2. Double feature bonus: Pick from up to 10 movies posters. If you find the 2x symbols, all your wins are doubled, if you don't, then this feature is barely worth it. If you find the splatted tomato, the bonus stops.

Closing thoughts

Not a bad game per say, just doesn't shine half as bright as so many of it's other Microgaming brothers and sisters.

Even the exquisite design and fun free spin feature will not save the Golden Era mobile slot from falling into obscurity.

If you want some fun, wild, features, we'd more happilly recommend the Cool Wolf game.
