What is this mobile slot about?

With 3 reels and 5 paylines, Mystery Joker mobile slot is a simple game to play, but is not as mysterious as the name suggests.

Sometimes the simplest slot games are the hardest to review. Not because we have something against classic slots – sometimes there’s nothing like a simple spin to make an afternoon entertaining. But usually there’s something that catches your eye.

But when a casino game lacks character so completely that there is very little to say about it… what then? Play’n Go have covered all the basics with the Mystery Joker fruit machine, and yet we didn’t quite feel inspired.

Classic symbols that feel dated

This is a simple mobile phone slot, with a very simple paytable over 5 paylines.

  • 3 Stars = 50 coins
  • 3 Liberty bells = 40 coins
  • 3 Plums = 30 coins
  • 3 lemons = 10 coins
  • 3 cherries = 10 coins

Personally, we didn’t rate this as a iPad or Android tablet slot. The graphics lacks the sharpness needed to impress on the larger screen.

That said, the free spins do make things a little more interesting, as they come often and are not usual to see in classic game. They lifts this Mystery Joker slot game from a one ‘don’t play ever‘ star, to two ‘just about playable‘ stars in our rating.

The mystery wins during the free spins

When you get 3 scatters you’ll win 10 free spins. What is suppose to make this bonus game feature interesting is that if you get two scatters during this time you’ll get anything from 1 coin to 100 times your bet.

That said, we’ve been left with only 3x to 10x our bet more often than not, so it’s hard to get that excited about it. Still, to be fair to this Mystery Joker slot, you can actually win a decent 6020 times your bet, though it’s not an easy reach.

Look we know classic slots are a simple game. But at least bring in a jackpot or make us feel like the big wins are just around the corner, somehow. It’s not that we couldn’t win playing the Mystery Joker slot, it’s that the graphics and sounds were so uninteresting, we didn’t really care.

The theme and game play just isn’t as good as other joker slot, like simple 5 reeler Jokerizer, or the dazzling Jackpot Jester 5,000.

Mystery Joker is, at best, a pub slot to load quickly whilst your friend is at the bar. Good for a couple of spins as you hope to get the free spins quickly.

In-game bonus features

Scatters: 3 jester hat scatters anywhere on the three reels will trigger 10 free spins. These can be re-triggered up to a total of 50 free spins. Which might be where the joke is in this game, as you'll be lucky to trigger this feature once in 50 spins.

Mystery Win: During the free spin round, if two or more scatter symbols show up (the jester hat) you'll win a mystery amount of anything from 1 coin to 100 coins.

Closing thoughts

There's nothing specifically wrong with this Mystery Joker mobile slot. It has the right symbols and makes the right sounds, has an auto play function and a decent return to player rate. It even has a free spin feature - rare in a classic slot.

Yet with few big wins and never feeling you'll get more than about 40x your bet, this will only entertain for a very short while.

If classic slots are your thing try 5x Magic by the same provider. There Play'n Go got it right.
