What is this mobile slot about?

Twisting the original tale of stealing from the rich and giving to the poor, this Disney princess Robin Hood is pretty if not particularly brave.

Twice in a week we’ve had to review a girly version of the old medieval tale. Except, unlike the Lady Robin Hood slot from Bally, this Genesys game spells the name correctly and is far prettier graphically. In fact, we think it’s superior in both design and sounds, with the beautiful animations bringing the Robyn mobile slot alive.

From Robyn herself popping out from the bottom right hand of the screen, shooting arrows every time a target shows on the reels, to the original music that brings an air of adventure on every spin, we found ourselves liking this theme despite some clear confusions from the creators.

The evil queen, for one, has a certain snow white quality to her that seems to mix genres. Even the handsome prince reminded us of the Cinderella style hero. But we suppose that Genesys was trying to bring that Disney familiarity to this Robyn slot game, so it’s at once something new, but something still a tale of old.

So imagine our surprise when we started testing this mobile phone slot and found, to our disappointment, that the graphics don’t transfer well to all screens – specifically smaller Android phones. The graphics lose their sharpness, and the symbols reduce too much, making it hard to see wins at times. Definitely free play Robyn slot first to make sure it doesn’t look naff, or simply open it up as an tablet or iPad slot only.

Keep your eye on the bullseye

There’s basically one big main feature during this Robyn slot machine, and that’s those targets on the screen. During the base game the blonde archery genius shoots her arrow and turns that symbol into any other type of symbol on the reel. During the free spin games, these symbols all turn wild.

The problem with this, in our opinion, is that it’s all just showmanship to avoid the bigger issue of the game; you’re not actually winning that much full stop. When she shoots her arrow, most of the time it gives us nothing, as the symbols turn to exactly what we didn’t need. The flip side to that is that if you get several of these on the five reels, they all turn into the same symbol, meaning you do get a slightly higher chance of winning something in this 243 ways to win game.

But, so desperate are you for a little entertainment, that when the free spins show up (in between a good 50 to 100 spins each time), you are just grateful that you get wilds. Because you can actually win something then.

A tricky phone slot for the non-courageous

That’s right, non-courageous. Because any video slot that tricks you into getting excited about having wild symbols on a free spin round (no multiplier, not stacked, no richer reels we remind you) is certainly never going to pay out a fortune.

We got an awesome free spin round where we re-triggered it twice and still we only walked away with 60x our bet. That wouldn’t be a bad sum if we could get it every-time the free spins show up, but we’ve walked away with 1x our bet far too often to know that that is unlikely. Generally you count your blessings if you get 10x your bet. Add a low return to player rate of 95.04% and it killed the thrill quickly.

We are not saying it doesn’t have some entertainment value. But there’s a huge amount of low variance slot that are far better, from NetEnt’s Mega Fortune to Next Gen’s Potion Commotion.

In-game bonus features

Wild Symbols: In the base game it only shows up underneath target symbols, and very rarely at that. During the free spin round, every target symbol become wild.

The Target Feature: Every time a target symbol pops up on screen, Robyn will come along and shoot it, turning it into another symbol showing on the five reels or a wild. More for show that for any real wins.

The Free Spins: Get three or more scatter Robyn slot logos anywhere on the screen and you'll trigger 12 free spins. These can be re-triggered from time to time, which we've done to ok-ish results. In fact, the only times we've walked away with a decent size prize from this feature is when we've re-triggered it.

That's because all this feature has going for it as that the target symbols all become wild, giving you extra potential wins in a 243 ways slot. With no multipliers and only wilds for company, it's easy to walk away from this game with very little indeed.

Closing thoughts

Though it looks beautiful in theory, it doesn't always match up across all mobile devices and the potential for big slot wins here are quite low.

Still, for a quick safe spin, Robyn mobile slot won't storm the castle, but might just give you a few coins to get you through the day.
