Those of you with good memories might remember that back in 2011 everyone was in love with 3D. Microgaming decided to bring out the online slot Sterling Silver 3D, which if you put on the special glasses, popped out of your screen.

Shame then, about how it looks

Because the original was meant to be in 3D, the graphics are very simple. Almost too simple.

And Microgaming have done plenty of ‘metal’ type slot games, Liquid Gold for example, was brilliant.

The problem with the silver however, is that it’s dull. Gold is bright and lively, but silver is basically… grey. Sure as a bracelet it’s shiny grey. But as an iPhone/iPad or Android slot, it’s basically grey.

And the symbols aren’t that inventive to really make this theme visually interesting, especially as you only get A-9 and a couple of silver blocks.

After the first couple of spins, we basically yawned. If it wasn’t because we had to write this Sterling Silver slot review, we could have seen ourselves closing it without spinning.

Actually, it’s got some great features

Once you look past its boring theme, it’s got some great bonus features.

You have stacked wilds, which can come with anything from a 2x to 10x multipliers randomly on each and every spin, and then you have 15 free spins that trigger within 50 spins or so.

And the great news is that you can get some decent wins, up to 1280 times your bet, at any time, due to that multiplier on the wild.

The problem is that whilst the wins come often enough that you almost start to enjoy your time here, for us it couldn’t defeat the dull greyness that meant we would probably not return.

If stacked wilds are your thing, we’d almost go for the more lively Ariana slot, or even the easy playing Cool Wolf slot.

The Sterling Silver mobile slot could actually be a very fun game if Microgaming had created it to be more than a simple theme for their 3D experiment.

As such we've given it 2 stars, as we doubt we'll be back all that often to chase the dull grey metal.

However, if unlike us, theme isn't important, then by all means, add a star and go play. It's actually a fun, easy playing mobile slot machine, with some decent wins.

We'll wait till Microgaming decided to recreate it with another theme. You know that's coming.
