SugarPop mobile slot will not doubt be the marmite of games; except sweeter and as colourful as a rainbow covered cupcake.
If the cupcake above made you feel slightly sick, we would advice you to walk away from this video slot. However, we suspect that anyone reading this will have been attracted by the pinks, purples and chocolatey sweet goodness that this BetSoft game promises to bring in spadefuls.
And why not? Fans of the mobile app Candy Crush will instantly recognise the style of this Sugar Pop slot. Except with a few crucial differences that actually made us thoroughly enjoy this unusual gem of a casino game.
If your idea of a good time is 9 paylines across 5 reels, then we suggest you check out Thunderstruck by Microgaming. Because Sugarpop has no paylines. Or it has hundreds. It’s hard to tell. On a 5×5 square, these glass candies will burst when three or more are adjacent to each other in any direction. Each candy has a value, and when it pops, you burst that value. So if you pop 3 red candies worth 20 coins each, you win 3×20 = 60 coins.
It’s far simpler once you start playing we promise, though to truly appreciate everything you can get from this game, you’ll have to read our bonus features section below. Because as you reach the higher levels (yes there are levels) you get special candy symbols that provide you with chances for more and larger wins. You’ll get through level 1 to 8 fairly quickly, and then it starts to slow down a bit. Still, we think you can get to level 12 in about 500 spins.
However, you’ll only have to pay for 100 of those spins.
Like very, very super low. The return to player rate is 97.6%, which means that your balance stays pretty steady. Sugarpop feels much more like a game than a slot. You have to clear patterns. You have a game score and a level score. You have a level meter filling up. You unlock candies and different lands.
What we are saying is that very rarely do you feel like you are close to winning big amounts of cash. On the other hand, it’s far more profitable than the likes of Candy Crush which just takes your money and runs. At least you have a chance to get some of that back with Sugarpop slot machine.
The only real negative is that because it’s so feature heavy, it needs good WiFi to play smoothly. Otherwise we found it could be a little slow and jerky when playing over your phone network. As an iPad or Android tablet slot, however, it really pops. Pun intended.
Betsoft Gaming have promised to keep releasing levels in the future, to continue on your candy filled adventure. There are currently 5 worlds and 30 levels to conquer. In two words? Surprising and different.

|Coins range||0.01 - 1.00|
|Min/Max bet||0.50 / 250|
|Bonus rounds||Many, many, many. Read the features section.|
All Ways Pay: Each symbol is worth a value when they pop. You'll need to get at least 3 or more matching candies adjacent to each other, anywhere on the reels, in any pattern, to get them to burst. You can create chains of anything from three all the way to 25.
Cascading Reels: Every time a win is created, the symbols 'pop' and disappear, with more symbols cascading down from above.
Super Colour: Get 4 or more in a combination and they will leave behind a symbol with a 2x multiplier. If you manage to pop it before the next spin, it will multiply the combination.
Colour Bomb: Burst 5 or more in a combination and a bomb of the same colour will be left behind. If used by the cascading symbols on top, every symbol of the same colour will burst. Not hugely effective considering that by then (the second burst of the same colour at least) most are already gone.
Lollipop Candy - Level 1 Upwards: Once the spin is over and if you have one of these on the reels, all the candies will swirl around giving you a second free go. Shows up often and makes an adequate replacement to free spins bonus games.
Caramel Chew - Level 2 Upwards: From it's starting position, this little chewing delight will take a random path, destroying all candies on its way, giving you the opportunity for more descending from above. The biggest amount we've seen it chew is about 8, but usually around 4 or 5.
White Chocolate - Level 4 Upwards: This chocolate square shoots out almonds anywhere on the screen exploding candies and creating a more even chance for wins.
Gumdrop - Level 6 Upwards: This one sucks up candies rather than explodes them. Basically the white chocolate one, but more dramatic.
Jawbreaker - Level 8 Upwards: This purple rock will jump out of the screen and destroy four to six random candies in the screen.
Candy Cane - Level 10 Upwards: Explodes all the candies on the same row and column, creating pretty nice combos. We like this one.
Jelly Beans - Level 12 Upwards: This one actually explodes into wins, taking out up to 3 candies on the reels.
Chocolate Square - Level 15 Upwards: A 3x3 square surrounding the space around the chocolate will be destroyed, creating a nice empty space for more candies to fill.
Cotton Candy - Level 20 Upwards: A tornado of cotton candy sweeps up tons of candies for one big win. Now this is what we are talking about. Plus we can actually create a 'tornado of cotton candy' without anyone yelling at us.
Peanut Butter Cup - Level 21 Upwards: This little cup will squirt peanut butter onto random candies, making those sticky on the reels and turn into the same colour. It will then swirl the rest of the candy around, creating several winning combinations.
More of an arcade game than slot, SugarPop! mobile slot will keep you playing... and playing... and playing... as your cash never seems to go down dramatically and you unlock more and more candy filled lands.
We realise that many will hate it, but we enjoyed the casual gaming style and touch of something a little different from the rest of the mobile slot games out there.Play Now at Mr Green »
