However you’ll rarely see it called anything other than The Curious Machine mobile slot, which is just as well as the first title is quite a mouthful. Still, it’s fairly apt for a 3D slot that feels as grand as its title, with curious doodles, futuristic skylines, authoritarian generals, crazy robots, and dinosaurs appearing across the five reels.
We love the theme created by Betsoft Gaming. The bonus features have been ingeniously integrated into the theme, with the wild turning into a ‘vortex’ if it’s not used, mixing up nearby symbols for a potential win. Random reels ‘spin back in time’ giving you a second chance at a win. The free spins send you to the dawn of the dinosaurs, with multipliers of up to 5x your bet randomly triggered.
With all that, you should expect some pretty big wins right?
Wrong.
Let’s be honest, the wild vortex and the reel re-spin are just there for… coolness? Sometimes they help you win, sometimes they don’t. The only difference between that and a normal spin of the reels is that these bonus features makes it look cooler. They are there for theatrics. Not that that doesn’t make it more interesting, because this mobile slot machine is all about style over substance.
There are no really big wins hiding on these reels. You’ll be lucky to walk away with 20% over your starting budget. The Curious Machine enjoys taking you on a wondrous adventure without making you all that much richer, but perhaps a little bit wiser.
There is hope amongst this 30 paylines video slot.
The free spins and the bonus click me feature is the only place you hold hope of perhaps walking away with something worthy of note. Though the free spins came often enough, the 5x multiplier was as rare as the dinosaurs themselves so usually we walked away with about 10 times out bet on this one. We had a little more luck with with the bonus feature where we got about 30x our bet, but this is a hard feature to catch.
Still, you can’t help but have a little fun with this mobile slot game, with plenty on the reels to distract you, and small wins that allow you to play for longer. It won’t change your life, but it’s one of the slicker low variance slots for mobile phones and tablets.

Vortex Wild: The vortex symbol is wild (looks a little like a multicoloured black hole in space. Trust us, you'll know it when you see it). If it shows up on the reels and is not used to make a winning payline, it will take all the symbols around it and spin them round randomly. This sometimes works to create a winning line, but we would have been happier with a multiplier attached to the wild.
Reel Rewind: Randomly, if you get no wins on the reels, one of the reels might randomly start spinning, giving you a second chance to win. This occurs fairly frequently, and usually to your advantage.
Blast to the Past Free Spins Round: Though you'd think it would be quite difficult to get the free spins as you need to land the dinosaur symbol on reels 1, 3 and 5, thank-fully this happens often enough not to miss them. Maybe... every 50 to 100 spins? Here you'll get 10 free spins and a multiplier meter that will randomly give you x2, x3, x4 or x5 your bet. The x5 your bet is generally hiding in the land that time forgot.
Gamble Feature: You can double any winnings on the reels by playing a simple game with Gizmo the robot. Guess in which hand he is hiding the golden coin to win double your bet. This feature is only playable in the base game and cannot be triggered for any winnings on the free spins or bonus round.
Instant Win, Travel Through Time Feature: Sort of a click me feature, except you are simply clicking one button, and with each press of the button you are awarded a certain amount of cash. The feature is pretty to look at as it takes you through certain points in history until you travel back to your present.
The Curious Machine Review Conclusion
The nice thing about The Curious Machine mobile slot is that it's as unique as the crazy inventor who made her. With features tantalising you through your game play with the hope of a win and entertainment all around, it should have gotten more stars.
However, the max amount you can win on this slot is not enough to really grab you for more than a short journey. As steam punk adventures go, we would probably still prefer heading for NetEnt's Subtopia.
