NetEnt made a huge announcement last week, saying that they’ve signed the entire Planet of the Apes franchise and the first big slot will be released in October 2017.

And whilst we have very little information so far, we can make some educated guesses at what we can expect now that NetEntertainment’s studios have gotten their hands on 50 years of film history.

Here’s everything we know, including plenty we don’t know about the NetEnt Planet of the Apes slots.

Because half the fun is trying to predict the future based on limited facts.

Come on, what you got better to do really? Not like those work spreadsheets will go cold… come join us on a journey to the far future where Apes rule and humans rebel.

How big a reveal is this for NetEnt slots?

The first thing we really have to ask is exactly how big, or how excited we are about this news story.

After all, every year around this time, the big slot casino software compete for the spotlight as they each try and outdo each other on the latest big catch.

Playtech revealed this year that they’ve signed with Warner Bros entertainments; meaning you get games like the Suicide Squad slot and the Justice League movie machine.

Which is a pretty big deal.

On the other end of the scale, Microgaming got the rights to the 2004 The Phantom of The Opera movie with Gerard Butler. Is it corny to say; that is sooo last season?

Why the Planet of the Apes movies are still relevant today

Don’t worry, we are not going to go on a film student rant about how they are part of the cornerstone of the American sci-fi genre.

Or talk about that iconic scene at the end with the statue of liberty.

Instead, it’s much simpler than that:

  • Rise of the Planet of the Apes (2011) made $481 million in the box office world wide
  • Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (2014) made $710 million in the box office world wide

And if anyone says these are being done for any other reason… well, lets just say that Microgaming aren’t making the Jurassic World slot because they are fans of the T-Rex.

Game studios make slots based on what’s going to be popular, and current, right now.

Can anyone say… War For the Planet of the Apes?

That’s right, the third movie that closes the latest trilogy of films is coming out in July 2017. Here’s a little taster.

So you can imagine that NetEnt were happy to take on this franchise, seeing as there should be a fair amount of buzz around these big blockbuster movies come the Summer.

That said, thats not to say that we think the first game will the War for the Planet of the Apes slot.

What will be the first Planet of the Apes slot?

NetEnt have been surprisingly cagey about announcing which of the films will get the online slot treatment come October 2017.

The obvious choice would be War for the Planet of the Apes, as it will be the one freshest in peoples minds.

But we have a feeling that NetEnt will surprise us all. And by “all”, we mean anyone who isn’t us or our readers.

We think it’s all about the original 1968 Planet of the Apes movie

We think NetEnt will go back to the classic 1968 film with Charlton Heston.

Now, we should do a little disclaimer here saying that this is pure guesswork based on a hunch. The only thing NetEnt have said about the subject so far has been:

“Planet of the Apes is one of the largest film franchises in the world never to have been applied to gaming before. With such a rich history, the brand resonates with everyone that has grown up with the films, and it will fit perfectly with NetEnt’s wide and divers player base. We are thrilled to have signed the franchise, and can’t wait to offer the game to players later in the year.” Simon Hammon, Chief Product Officer of NetEnt.

So you see? Nothing concrete. It’s not like when they announced they would be making a Guns n Roses slot machine, and we could take a guess that it would feature all of their top songs.

That was obvious guesswork. This is more based a little on past history, and a little on what we want to happen.

NetEnt love classic films that shine eternal

Playtech, love making big current franchise films like The Avengers game or the Iron Man 3 slot, and now the DC movie slots.

Microgaming, on the other hand, are all about creating machines about the current fad of films, such as the so-so Bridesmaids or the Dark Knight Rises jackpot.

NetEnt, however, tend to lean towards finding those movies and films that resonate with multiple generations of players.

We are talking about movies based on classic films such as The Creature from The Black Lagoon, or the Dracula Touch or Invisible Man slot.

In fact, the most ‘current’ slot based on a film is the Aliens slot machine; which anyone who is into sci-fi will tell you, is pretty iconic all on it’s own.

The original Planet of the Apes slot is still the most iconic

Which is why we are placing our bets on that film being the first in the franchise to get turned into an online and mobile slot.

After all, when you have more than 50 years of history to play with, it can be difficult to know where to start. Our bet is that they’ll go straight to the beginning of the series.

And if somewhere in there we don’t get a bare chested Charlton screaming “Damn you! Damn You All to Hell!” we will be extremely disappointed.

You hear us NetEnt?

Can’t wait till Oct. 2017 for the new Planet of the Apes slot?

No doubt many of you will scoff at our guess.

So which one do you think we’ll get? Rise of the Planet of the Ape slot? Dawn of the Planet of the Apes game maybe?

Surely not Beneath Planet of the Apes or Escape from the Planet of the Apes?

Speculate all you want, but till then, there’s plenty of great NetEnt games to play.
