Yggdrasil Gaming are on a roll, with a new mobile slot release due out on the 21st of March. Are we meant to be excited? Hard to say with a provider with only one mobile slot under their belt. But we can be judgemental even without any information. It's a skill.
You may have read our review of the recently released Jokerizer mobile slot game, which came out only a few weeks ago. This was shortly followed with the first big winner story for this slot when one player won an impressive €28,000 in one spin. So far, so promising, here was a video slot that had something to offer for those willing to take some big risks.
The follow up by this lesser known casino games provider is just as risky, but a very different style of mobile slot. Winterberries came out around the same time as the Jokerizer slot, but only online. It seems it will be now joining it’s older brother and you’ll be able to play this slot on your mobile phone or tablet of choice.
We played the online version, and if the Jokerizer is a good example of what we can expect from Yggdrasil Gaming we can tell you that, much like the NetEnt mobile slots we know and love, the games lose nothing in translation from the online version to the mobile version.
So the online version we played briefly for 10 minutes (as we wanted to know the slot, but not ruin it for when we break it apart in our mobile review in a few days) is fairly favourable.
5 reels, 3 rows and 25 paylines, this video slots wintery theme works well, though half the berries look like they would kill you rather than sweeten any dessert. Poisonous fruits aside, we could very quickly tell that this slot game, much like Jokerizer, relies heavily on one feature to keep you entertained. You won’t find any scatter symbols, free spins or wild symbols. No click me feature or mini games.
So what’s to keep us entertained? Sticky wins.
Remember those? Jack Hammer is probably one of the most famous example of the sticky wins feature done well on mobile. Except Jack Hammer had wilds, free spins… you know, the whole package. Winterberries slot has only sticky wins.
Who? Us? Never.
Ok, fine, Winterberries lacks… features. And being as it appears to be (at first glance) fairly high in volatility, that means that you won’t see those sticky wins often. So, you know, it might not hit the same spots as the titular detective in the Jack Hammer series. With those NetEnt slots, though big wins were available, it was the constant action on the reels that drew you in.
Winterberries is a much slower game, but the win’s hiding here might be just, if not more, impressive. With every sticky win, you do get a free spin to get more sticky symbols on the reels. More importantly, it has an unusual multiplier feature where if you fill the whole column with a symbol from left to right (very possible) you get a multiplier according to how many columns you’ve filled (so if you have two columns of berries, that’s a x2 multiplier, 3 columns is a 3x multiplier, and so on…)
So, there you have it. We are excited. We’ve only played the online version for a little bit mind you, so as not to ruin our berry mobile slot appetite, but if you can’t wait for our full review, you can play the online game at Vera & John or Leo Vegas Casino.
