We look at the max bet rule enforced by some online casinos, what to look for, and how to make it work for you.
When playing online slots, many players forget to read the terms and conditions before placing a bet.
Players then get stumped with the maximum bet rule enforced by operators, which puts a limit on how much you can bet on games – especially online slot games.
However, you need to remember that every casino is different, which is why their rules, terms, and conditions also vary. You should never assume the max bet limit will be the same for all the casinos you play at.
You may wonder why a casino stops a player from betting the maximum amount, as casinos often have minimum bets of 0.01, but then only a maximum bets of 250 cash, rather than what is the natural max bet of a slot.
The minimum amount may come across as obvious: because these are the smallest amounts that are required for you to place a wager on a certain game.
However, casinos may also impose minimum deposit limits of £€$10. These are to ensure that, on average, they make a profit in order to cover overhead costs, such as software licensing fees, bank transfers and employee salaries.
On the other hand, the maximum bet is there to provide the casino with some form of protection. There’s always a chance that players may pull off winning tricks using a large bet, even after retaining a manageable house edge – and they don’t want to put their business at risk.
Having a maximum bet rule is one way of preventing this scenario from occurring. It’s a little controversial – with the games already set up to give the house an edge, do they need anymore?
However, there’s also the max bet rule on a bonus or free spin casino offers, which works a little different. We investigate both.
When you are playing slot games in an online casino, you need to ensure that you know the maximum bet in every casino you play.
You can usually find this information in the terms & conditions or bonus terms of the site, or you can contact customer support directly.
Many online casinos have stopped this outdated and unfair policy, but not all. None of our recommendedinternet casinos has this policy, because we don’t agree with it.
You should never risk wagering a high amount of money if you are not sure about the limit. And especially, if the maximum bet of that specific game is higher than the maximum betting limit as explained in the terms, then don’t risk it. If the online casino is smart, they will just lower the max bet on their slot machines, if they feel that the danger is too high.
This makes more sense to us: if a new casino isn’t flush with cash, and isn’t sure it can afford the 10,000 x your bet on the Laser Fruit slot, then don’t have it on you’re site. Or lower the max bet on the machine from 500 a spin to 100 a spin.
Whilst we generally don’t recommend you play on any casino that has a max bet rule over all their games (and who are too lazy to remove the new video slots with limits they can’t afford players to win), there is one exception.
And that’s having a max bet limit on a casino bonus. For us, this isn’t a deal-breaker.

In essence, this is usually hidden in the T&Cs of the bonus, where in order to clear the wagering you can only bet up to a certain amount – usually around £€$5/8 a spin.
The reason this isn’t a deal-breaker is that we view bonus money as that: a bonus you use to keep playing. Clearing wagering requirements isn’t easy anyway, so it’s best to see it as Monopoly Money, and if you do win big… Hurray! You might just get a payout after all.
Which is why it’s important to read these terms. Obviously, if you don’t like the terms, don’t take it.
Because there would be nothing more heartbreaking than playing through your entire bonus funds, win the jackpot, only to then find out when you try to withdraw that you’ve breached the max bet rule.
Unfortunately, if you have managed to break the rule, the chances are your withdrawal has been declined and your winnings have already been confiscated.
You can, of course, speak to the customer support team of the casino but it is most likely going to be the same outcome – your account could even be blocked.
When playing at a new casino, or looking to take risks with high bets, just make sure you always remember to check what the max bet is with any bonus or site you play with.
As long as you understand these rules, you should never have a reason to ever break them.
