They are the high paying symbols and you’ll recognise them as they come stacked 2 symbols high, giving you that extra chance to get more wins, even though the low paying suit symbols are also plentiful across the reels.

The good bad news is that the paytable wins are fairly measly in comparison to what you can get in the bonus games. But that’s not that unusual – think of the Cluedo Cash Mystery slot for example.

The Big Boss can trigger four in-game jackpots

These are not progressive jackpots, but in-game wins. So they won’t go up or down as you play, but stay static, ranging from 50x to 5,000x your bet.

It’s fun to watch those reminders over the reels, especially as the base game can get a little samey until you hit the cash bonus feature.

Chicago Gold slot is fun but volatile

For a high variance slot you do get lots of little wins here and there, making it feel like it’s a lot less dangerous than it actually is. Which you should never forget because what you are aiming to get is that top 5,000x your bet max win, not unlike in the Book of Dead slot game, for example.

Everything else is window dressing, including the 8 free spins which you trigger with just 3 scatters. All they do is give you richer reels to catch more of those bonus symbols so you’ll trigger either one of the jackpots or that cash bonus.

Which is a shame, we would have liked for the big slot wins to either come in a more dramatic way or at least given us some good paytable win. Which is why we can’t give this Chicago Gold slot review more than 3 stars.

The Chicago Gold slot has plenty to recommend it, including a fun gangster theme that is well done, though bigger reels would have been more suitable for Android phones and iPhone casinos.

The stacked high paying symbols gives you a chance of catching multiple big wins over all 40 paylines, but unfortunately, the wins never quite get high enough to make it a must-play.
