How do you follow up one of the most famous IGT slot machines of all time? You double it and add extra paylines. Obviously.
Da Vinci Diamonds Dual Play slot is a big slot. And we mean that literally. You’ll only be able to play it in portrait mode, whether using your iPad, Android tablet or mobile phone.
Much like IGT’s Wolf Rising slot, this is a 5 x 6 format, but unlike that game, it’s technically two slot games, rather than one, over the whole space.
What this IGT mobile slot has done is simply put the original Da Vinci Diamonds game, one on top of the other, and allowed the now famous ‘tumbling reels’ to tumble through to the reels below.
You may or may not be familiar with the original video slot, but it was one of the very first slot machines online to incorporate cascading reels, where when you win, the symbols burst and disappear, with more coming from above to be replaced by more symbols.
The appeal, of course, is that the additional symbols that tumble down resemble a mini ‘free’ go on the game. It can lead to cumulative wins that, though possibly not enough to buy you diamonds, certainly enough for a few rubies.
However, the dual play version suffers from the exact problems we wrote about in our original Da Vinci Diamonds slot review.
IGT can’t hide the fact that this video slot feels as old as it looks. From the dated graphics and animations, to the fairly standard harp sounds, it’s hard to get excited when you load this game up, compared with so many other games that have more impressive… everything.
That said Da Vinci Diamonds Dual Play mobile slot suffers a little less from this syndrome than it’s predecessor, especially when you play it as an iPhone slot or Android phone slot. The smaller screens hides a lot of the blemishes that are made more obvious online and on tablets.
The free spins of course. Slightly easier to trigger than in the original (not in itself that big of an achievement, as the first Da Vinci is ridiculously tight with it’s free bonus games), it opens up this slot to a whole new level.
It may even be able to challenge some of it’s flashier competitors, as when you trigger your 6 free spins, the two slot games become one giant slot, and increase the paylines from 40 to 60.
It’s still hard work getting some magnificent wins here, but at least the possibility is here, which will appeal to old school players who want something a little different.
Still, we suspect most will still head straight to NetEnt’s Gonzo’s Quest, which may not have as many paylines, but is far prettier and holds easier larger wins.

The Tumbling Thru Feature: No we haven't spelt that wrong, that's what IGT call it.
Basically every time you win, the symbols will disappear and more symbols will fall through from the top of the screen. And as the two slot games are on top of each other, the symbols tumble through from the game on top to the one below.
Free Spins & Extra Paylines: Get three 'extra paylines bonus' symbols anywhere within one of the two slots (so not the whole screen, they have to be within one of the 5x3 games), and you'll trigger 6 free spins.
Though, granted, this isn't a huge amount, you do have the tumbling reels to help you get 'extra' goes and extra wins.
But the real draw here is that the game opens up, and turns from two slot machines, to one giant one, with an additional 20 paylines given to you.
That's a total of 60 paylines to create more wins and more 'tumbles'.
Now bear in mind that we've walked away with only 5x to 10x our bet on several occasions, you can't expect to walk away with huge wins every time you catch this feature. But you can enjoy some spectacular wins if you're lucky enough.
This is a weird mix of old fashioned reels, with a great modern twist.
And though we're not sure the two slots in one will captivate people for long, hit the Da Vinci Diamonds Dual play bonus games early enough, and you might just be hooked in for life.
