Let’s get to the core of why this Desert Shark slot review only got 3 stars: the paytable is not impressive. You need to get a 5 of a kind win on any of the low paying symbols just to get your bet back. So anything but high paying symbols will give you something interesting.

But not that interesting. The Pirate Captains pays only 5x your bet for a 5 of a kind win. So you need a lot of wins to get anything close to 20x to 30x your bet.

And the way you do that is by catching those Desert Sharks. You get a normal wild, but the golden wild shark is a spreading wild – but only if you find two in the base game. They turn wilds to the left of them, and if they go over wilds, adds a 2x multiplier to that wild.

The Desert Shark slot requires a sense of adventure

Much like the strange Pirate slot theme, you can’t go into this adventure thinking you’ll find the treasure in the desert and walk away without a few bruises and cuts.

Mostly, this is down to the Multipliers. You need them, but getting them is hard. Sure those Shark can go over wilds and give you 2x multipliers. But it’s very rare in the base game.

In the Desert Shark free spins, you get additional wilds in the form of Dynamite wilds – at least 1 to 10 on each spin. If a shark crosses path with it, it explodes and more wilds drop around the reels. Which could lead with more sharks crossing paths onto those wilds, and giving you extra multipliers… up to 9x multipliers.

Those multipliers can multiply each other, and that could lead to some fantastic wins. We didn’t see them, and it would require a huge stretch of a wild bonanza for it to happen, but it’s there.

Not quite as good as the Medallion Megaways slot by Fantasma, but on the same kind of scale as the Riviera Star game but with a better theme.

Wild: There are three types of wild symbols. The gold 'W' symbol, the golden shark, and the W with dynamite. The first two you'll find in the base game and free spins, and the dynamite wild will only appear during the base game.

You can also get multiplier wilds by the swim-swim feature, up to 9x. These multipliers multiply each other.

Swim Swim Feature: When two or more golden sharks appear on the screen in the base game, that shark will swim to the left and potentially turn other symbols wild. If a second shark swims over a wild that's already there, it adds a multiplier to the wild symbol. You can get up to 9x multiplier on a single wild.

Scatters and Free Spins: The tornado is the scatter symbol, and 3 symbols on reels 2, 3 and 4 will trigger 8 free spins.

This Desert Shark slot online has a unique and wonderful theme that made us want to find out more.

Unfortunately, the problem is the base game paytable, which doesn't have a huge amount of power, but can be made more exciting thanks to those spreading wilds and multipliers. It's hard to get multipliers over 2x, but getting 3 or 5 wilds isn't, and that what keep you spinning.

Will you win huge? Probably not, which is why we can't give it more than a 3-star slot review. But we can say that there is something wonderful about these fun sand sharks that might get us coming back for a few quick spins.
