The Flying Hippo slot is a 7×7 grid based slot from Pragmatic Play with tumbling reels, where every win leaves behind a wild, and each successive win increases the multipliers up to 50x.
We are huge fans of Pragmatic Play casinos, so we went into this Flying Hippo mobile slot with high hopes, especially as it sits on a huge grid of pretty symbols – not unlike one of our favourites, the Sweet Bonanza slot.
At first glance, it hits all the right notes: a cutesy slot theme where pretty little high-paying stars sit next to Ace to J symbols and the high-paying purple flying hippo adding a little character.
On every win, the symbols explode, leaving space for more symbols to fall down, and a wild is added to the reels. This increases your chance of catching a chain reaction of wins with better wild symbols and even bigger multipliers.
So why did we give this Flying Hippo slot review only 2 stars?
Can you catch the Flying Purple Hippos?
Much like Pink Elephants, Flying Hippos are not easy to catch. In fact, it feels like there are very few of those symbols flying around these huge reels, even with the avalanching wins.
If we were even more honest, it feels like there are not all that many avalanching wins. Oh, you get wins. Lots of little wins. Maybe one or two in a row.
And that can feel exciting at first. Especially when every win leaves behind a wild with a 2x or 4x multiplier. Those wild multipliers can even be added together if they are part of the same cluster.
This must be building up to something really exciting, right?
The Flying Hippo slot has a top win of 5,000x your bet
This isn’t bad for a high-variance game – the Book of Dead slot has the same top win and a 5 star review. But with that game you feel like the wins are achievable.
The Flying Hippo slot has a low RTP of 93.99%. Already that’s a bad start. Then, to get the huge wins, you’ll have to catch 18 wins in a row with the wild symbols AND THEN get wins using the colossal wild symbols, which each may have a random multiplier of 50x.
Personally, we think that’s about as likely to happen as coming across an actual purple flying hippo out in the wild. For our money, we’d rather play on the Casumo Bonanza exclusive slot, which has a top win of 21,100x your bet and an RTP of 95.5%.
It’s not technically impossible to win big here, but there are better Pragmatic Play slots out there with better odds. Use our advanced slot filter to find and stick with them.

Bonus Features
Wild: The Cloud is the wild symbol and replaces other symbols to create a win in this cluster pay slot machine.
Cluster Pays and Avalanching Wins: Symbols touching horizontally or vertically in clusters of 5 or more will create a win. Those winning symbols will explode, giving more space for symbols to tumble from above. This continues until no more wins are found.
Spawning Wild Feature: Whenever a cluster of symbols explodes, it always leaves behind a wild symbol. This can have a multiplier depending on the current spin level.
Every 6 wilds collected will increase the spin level up to level 3.
- Level 1: Wilds have 2x or 3x multipliers
- Level 2: Wilds have 3x, 4x, 5x, or 6x multipliers
- Level 3: Colossal Wilds have 3x to 50x multipliers.
After level 3 is achieved, the wild collection stops, and when no more tumbles are possible, 2 colossal 2x2 wild symbols will position on the screen.
Possible multipliers for to 2x wilds can be 3x, 5x, 7x, 10x, 15x, 25x, or 50x multipliers. If a colossal wild overlaps an existing wild on the grid, the multiplier of the smaller wild is added to one of the colossal wilds.
If the same wilds are part of more than one cluster, their multiplier is applied to all clusters' wins. The multiplier is added together if one cluster has two wilds with multipliers.

Flying Hippo Review Conclusion
The Flying Hippo slot on mobile was strangely disappointing. We enjoyed it, there are fun elements, but with a low RTP and no free spins, it's hard to fall in love.
It's been a while since we gave a Pragmatic Play slot review such a low rating, but you can't hit a home run all the time.
It's not a bad video slot, but getting those colossal wilds and the top win of 5,000x your bet is as likely as catching clouds in your hands on a foggy day.
