Glossy plastic fruits on a sea of purple calmness awaits you in Fruit Zen mobile slot.
Sometimes we wish we were in the meeting when software designers get together to pick a theme for their next slot machine. A fruit machine? sure, we see that. But what’s with the ocean? And the little crab on the right hand corner? We guess it’s meant to representative the peaceful zen like hypnotic state you flow into when you start playing Fruit Zen slot…?
We are not saying this is a bad mobile video slot. Far from it. Just that the design confused us a little and is very unlike any of the other Betsoft games out there. Still, they had to do something to make this machine stand out.
We’ll take a guess you’ve heard of the bright jewelled NetEnt game. If you haven’t go read our Starburst slot review and go play it. Don’t even bother to come back here.
Boomanji was Betsoft’s response to that game. A firework display of prettiness, but still a copy. Ok fine, we get it, Starburst is by far one of the most popular online slot games still after having been around since January 2012. And no doubt will continue to be a firm favourite with many.
Fruit Zen slot game is another replica. 10 reels, pays both ways, with an expanding wild that shows up from time to time and gives you a free-respin whilst it sticks around on the screen.
It’s simple and it works.
And yet it doesn’t feel quite as thrilling as the NetEnt mobile game or even half as enticing as Boomanji. The most you can win on Starburst or Fruit Zen slot machine is 500x your bet. So on that count it’s equal. The features are the same, the payout is the same… But Starburst return to player rate is a little bit higher, at 96.1% rather than Fruit Zen 95.96%. It also has a lower maximum bet. And the theme doesn’t quite bring the heart racing when you see that wild. It’s a little too peaceful.
We are not saying Fruit Zen mobile slot is bad. It isn’t. We love Starburst and this is more or less the same mechanics. But a good copy is still just a copy. It’s good, but just a few percentages and a few graphics not quite as good.
On the other hand if you are a fan of the original jewelled game, then this game is good for a little variety when you want to play a similar game.

Pays Both Ways: Though Fruit Zen video slot technically only has 10 paylines, it pays left to right and right to left, giving you a total of 20 paylines.
Expanded Wild: The wild symbol is the fruit zen logo which will expand to cover the whole reel in flowers every time it shows up. It only shows up on reel 2, 3 or/and 4, but it does stick around for one free re-spin. If you get another wild, it will also expand and both wilds will stay sticky for one more re-spin. The maximum re-spins you can get is three if you get three wilds on the middle of the five reels.
Like buying a replica Yves Saint Laurent suit in Thailand, it will look amazing but in your heart you'll know it's not an original.
Still, as copies go, Fruit Zen slot has plenty to recommend it and works beautifully on Android, iPads and iPhones.
