There’s nothing better than fighting goblins and monsters, so how come we felt like we barely saw many monstrous wins in this Heroes’ Gathering mobile slot?
We should point out that this Heroes’ Gathering slot game has been beautifully created and rendered by Relax Gaming. You are literally spinning 5 reels and 3 rows of Fantasy symbols, with magical spell books, arcane druids, and warriors all gathered to set off on an adventure. Not unlike the Snake Arena slot.
Set on the table of some World of Warcraft tavern, with gold coins, rats and sparkling keys setting the scene – this is truly eye-catching. We can’t fault the design, the animations, nor the vaguely ‘video-gamey’ music in the background.
So why couldn’t we have given this Heroes’ Gathering slot review just one more star? Well, we were going to, but it would have been all for the looks, and little for the substance.
The short answer is yes. Because you only need 2 bonus features to trigger one of two free spins bonus features. And it triggers often. the three scatter free spin bonus triggers a lot less often.
It’s a little complicated, but the gist is this: as you get wins in the free spins, these are collected on the pots on the side of the reels – silver symbol wins collect in the silver spot, golden symbol wins collect in the golden pot and so on.
During the Heroes’ Gathering slot bonus game, you’ll get an extra wild that will see a token go around the reels, collecting symbols for those pots. In the corner of each of the board game, you can also win cash prizes, from 5x to 100x your bet.
You get unlimited free spins until you collect 3 tokens of the same colour around the board – if you go around once, it resets, allowing you multiple goes at once.
Sounds exciting right?
We know a good side-quest is necessary to make a video game last longer, but a slot machine needs to have momentum and it needs to make you feel like you can win big at any point.
The paytable itself won’t pay out much. So it doesn’t matter if you end up playing 5 free spins or 20 free spins. All this casino game cares about is you getting those pots.
And those pots are hard to fill up when the wins in the game are not always very impressive. We’ve won maybe 10x our bet more often than anything close to 100x our bet – and we played this game for close to 2 hours to give it justice.
Maybe we were unlucky, but after all that time, we wanted to either feel exciting or get the feeling that there was more than just bronze coins and nickels in these video slot game reels.
On the bright side, we didn’t lose much either, so in effect, it’s very much much like playing a board game, slow, with little stakes.

Wilds: The orb is the wild symbols and can be used to replace any symbols on any of these 20 paylines. During the bonus free spin game, the spinner symbol is also the wild symbol.
Board Game Free Spins: Get three sword and axes symbols and you'll trigger the free spin board game. You get as many free spins as it takes to fille one of three amulets. Each of these symbols corresponds to a symbol group:
The prize pot increases as you get wins with those symbols during the free spins. The more wins you get, the bigger the pot.
When do you get your final win? Well, as you take your spins, the amulet symbol may land, and give you a number of 1 to 6. That will move the little token around the board game, encircling the reels. If you land on a position with an amulet symbol, it will collect one pin. Collecting 3 pins ends the free spin round.
You can also land on blank spaces (and win nothing) or land on corner spots and win:
Going a full circle around the board will remove all collected pins and landing on the start position will double all prize pot.
Once you get those 3 pins, however, you win whatever has been collected in the pot and any wins from the game.
Board Game Mini-Feature: If you only land two bonus features, you get a mini-feature. Only instead of getting all three pots, whatever symbol you land on in that first spin, is the on 'pot' you get to take home.
The rules are the same, except the amount you win in the corners are different:
Collected 3 pins will end the game.
You've got to admit: this Heroes' Gathering slot on mobile does recreate that feeling of playing a simplified game D&D around a table with your friends.
The problem is that you spend far too much time travelling, and not enough time raiding treasure, as you play a board game with little stakes and free spins that don't seem to matter.
It's a shame when a click me game becomes more exciting than the wins within the 5 reels in this 20 payline slot.
Still, you can't deny that this Fantasy game has plenty of appeal, thanks to all those pots of cash you can collect, and the unlimited free spins. The graphics are certainly stunning, the minimum bet is set at a low 0.10 a spin, and the RTP is high at 96.45%.
One for when you're in the mood to lounge and not pay too much attention - if you want high octane board game fun, maybe head to the Jumanji slot instead.
