An acquired taste of a movie, this Jackpot Rango slot on mobile follows the steps of it’s film ancestry by dividing people down the middle.
Now usually when we can see that a video slot will divide folks, we tend to give the game in question about three stars to be a little bit generous. However, we kinda felt in the ‘ok but not great’ camp when it came to this mobile slot machine, so we followed our instincts and gave it only 2 stars.
However, don’t run away just yet. Much like it’s predecessor the Basic Instinct slot machine, this little chameleon may yet appeal to you as both a jackpot slot and a simple free spins filled game.
If you haven’t seen the 2011 movie by the same name, then you might be taken aback by the odd lifelike creatures on these five reels. Some find them quirky and original, others a little freaky with eyes made to kill. Based around a inept Chameleon tourist who suddenly finds himself the sheriff of a wild west town of Dirt.
That’s pretty much all you need to know to enjoy this iSoftBet Jackpot Rango slot game. It has high card symbols and dessert critters in funny hats.
The graphics are sharp, and though you don’t always get the full sounds on every device, most have enough to bring a little atmosphere to the screen. We particularly liked playing this game as an Android phone slot, though it works just as well on iOS tablets and phones.
Ultimately you are playing to get either the jackpot prize, which you get by getting five jackpot symbols on a payline, or the free spins.
The jackpot can be decent. Usually ‘only’ a few tens of thousands – as if we would be hugely grateful for that kind of cash if we could get our hands on it. However, the starting bet here is a hefty 2.50, which might automatically put some smaller betting players off.
Not to mention that it’s not the millions you can get when you play Mega Fortune Dreams or the original Mega Fortune slot, as the Rango video slot is on a smaller network, so it doesn’t grow as fast. It does hit fairly often on the other hand, which is always what we like to hear from mobile jackpot slots.
This slots free spins are what will make or break this game for you in the end. There are two types. One you only get 2 of, but with sticky wilds, and the other you get 10 free spins but with the wilds acting as a multiplier.
The first is temperamental at best. You can get a screen full of wilds and love it, or nothing at all. The second gives a pretty consistent 20x your bet, on each turn.
The really beauty in the Jackpot Rango slot machine is when the two combine and re-trigger each other, creating a chain reaction of free spins and wins which can bring some real beauties of a win, anything from 60x your bet to, much, much higher.
However these are rare and mostly this mobile game is happy to keep you ticking and playing, without major changes to your bank roll, but hopes for that jackpot. As far as low risk thrills go, Rango offers some safe bets.

Wilds: The evil cowboy snake is the wild symbol, replacing all other symbols except scatters and the progressive symbol.
Progressive Jackpot Slot: You can only win this if you play at max bet, so 10 coins a line. That makes the minimum bet for this game 2.50 a spin - a little expensive in our books. Even the Mega Moolah slot, who says they will reward players who bet bigger, at least gives smaller gamblers the hope that it could still hit.
You'll need five progressive jackpot symbols on one of the 25 paylines over these 5 reels to win this prize. How will you be able to tell which is the jackpot symbol? Because it says 'jackpot progressive' on it. Subtle, this game is not.
Scatters & Free Spins: The more traditional free spins bonus game, here you'll have to catch 3 sheriff badge scatters to get 10 free spins. The multiplier isn't on the round, but to the wilds on the screen.
Want to know how often that slippery snake shows up? Not often enough for that 8x multiplier. Would have been better for the spins to simply come with a standard multiplier in our opinion.
Rango Free Spins: If you get two Rango symbols on reel one (that's the chameleon for those of you who haven't watched the movie), you'll be given 2 free spins. Not a lot, true, but any chameleons on the reels turn wild and remain sticky.
The wild snake also stays sticky and we've had a screen full of wild symbols to say that we've been lucky with this slots bonus feature.
Unfortunately, on it's own, it can many a time give you a big fat zero, so it's usually at it's best in combination with the 10 free spins as a little added value to your bonus round.
We have to admit that we haven't seen the movie, which may be why the graphics didn't charm us as much as they might have, had we been fans.
As it's stands Jackpot Rango mobile slot has a decent enough jackpot and plenty of free spins. Just not quite as many thrills as it's sibling, the Ninja Chef slot game, which manages to bring plenty of fun without the need of a progressive to enthral us.
