Here’s the thing. This is not a bad slot game. If it was, we would have given it a ‘don’t even bother’ one star. However, Mayan Riches mobile slot gets two, because ultimately there’s very few reasons not to like this high limit slot.
Sure it has what is now a fairly standard and unimaginative theme. But maybe you love the ancient south american theme. And yes, it only gives you 5 free spins once in a blue moon, but then so do so many other IGT slot games, like the classic and beautiful Cleopatra slot game.
Yet, this one didn’t inspire us. We got decent wins, we even walked away with more in our budget than we walked in with. But it lacks that IGT machine magic for us.
The Mayan slot theme doesn’t help
It’s not that we are against this theme as such, it’s just that it’s not even done that well. Even Bally’s Mayan Treasures slot does it better, and they don’t have the best when it comes to graphics.
Mayan Treasures video slot was originally a game for the land based casinos. And by trying to be ‘realistic’, they have simply made the man and woman on these five reels slightly creepy and everything else a massive cliche. From the wild stone pyramids, to the stone etches Ace to 9 high card symbols.
The sounds, we have to say, are nice, with pan flutes adding to that south American feel.
Mayan Riches slot is saved by the stacked wilds

Mostly because if you go chasing after the free spins, you’ll spend your cash faster than you can say “Quetzalcoatl”. That’s not to say that the free spins, when they show up, aren’t profitable.
There might be only five of them, but re-triggering them isn’t out of the ordinary in this Mayan Riches slot game, and they do have richer reels. So you get more high paying symbols and more wilds to fill your pockets.
But whilst you chase for the free spin games, you’ll miss the streaks of mid-size wins that are happening on the base game thanks to the stacked wilds. Like most IGT games, you’ll go through period of nothing, followed by wonderful periods of everything. Those arrive in the base game often enough that you can actually play for a fairly long time on this mobile slot.
However, if push came to shove, we would probably still prefer to play on Golden Goddess slot machine, which is as simple, but far easier on the eye.
