Which of the 5 bonus games will you pick to feature in this Rainbow Riches Pick n Mix mobile slot? What you choose might determine your luck.
The follow up to the now famous Rainbow Riches video slot, the theme here is much the same, with cheery Irish tunes jingling in the background, and the crazy wild eyed leprechaun appearing on the five reels.
But this beast is Rainbow Riches on steroids. Do us a favour, if you’re new to mobile slot machines, maybe try the original casino game first. Or maybe the cute OMG Kittens, which won’t do much more than make you smile.
Because try and start with this Rainbow Riches Pick n Mix slot game, and you’ll end up hating slots. This is for advanced players only.
Not something we usually have to say when it comes to iOS and Android slots. Usually, if nothing else, you just try and ‘spin to win’.
Not here. First of all, you should bet more than £€$1 a spin. If that sounds like too much, there’s always the Monopoly Once Around Deluxe game which starts at 0.15 a spin.
Why bet high? Because the return to player rate increases. Less than 1 a spin gives you a low return of 94%, more than 1 a spin, and you get a decent return of 96%.
If you use the big bet option, where you spend 10 a go to get either 5 free spins or a bonus feature, and you’re talking about returns of 98%.
But really, you can afford to ignore the big bet option all together if you wish – there’s no doubt that the bigger you can bet, the more favourable your odds, but even as a simple spin and win slot machine Rainbow Riches Pick n Mix has plenty to offer.
The question is, what’s on offer?
Here’s where your slot strategy comes in. Before you even spin you are asked to pick a maximum of 3 out of 5 bonus features. You don’t have to pick 3, you can pick 2 or 1, but we found 3 to be the optimal number.
We’ve written in more detail below what they each are, but the best strategy to get the bigger wins is to get two high paying bonus features, and one low paying bonus that will no doubt hit more frequently.
You have to anyway, as there is only 2 high paying bonuses to choose from. You can choose only low paying bonus features, but trust us, the free spins are almost never worthwhile having.
We played all morning, and our biggest win on the free spins was only about 10x our bet. It’s a worthless excuse of a bonus.
But that’s why we are here. Because with the information in our slot features section below you can make the best choice as to how best to play; which feature is worth your while, and how much to bet.
And once you do, what you’ll find here is a pretty clever Barcrest slot game that gives you more control than any other video slot out there.

Wild Symbol: The gold coin is wild and replaces all other symbols except the bonus symbols.
The Big Bet Game: This is closely related to the bonuses you'll choose, but we thought we'd start with this option first to explain why you should or shouldn't use it.
Basically, you can choose to spend anything from £€$10 to £€$25 to spin one of the bonus wheels. You usually have three wheels, one for each of the bonus games you've chosen.
If you decide to take the cost and spin the wheel, and it lands on rainbow, you get the bonus feature. If it lands on the green, you get 5 mega spins.
The higher you bet, the more likely you are to trigger the bonus features instead of the mega spins.
Why would you prefer the bonus to the mega spins? Because those are only normal spins, but played at 3 times the minimum bet, whilst the bonus features are played at 60 times the minimum bet.
And that's regardless of how much you've bet to spin those little wheels. So it's risky.
Not to mention that if you choose to play this way, you end up playing less a slot machine, and more a 'spin the wheel and play click me games'.
Which, to us, isn't as much fun. We kinda prefer to choose our bonuses and spin the reels normally - even if the returns lower slightly.
Which of the 5 bonus games to choose? This is a big question. What we are going to do is list them in order from worst to best - or the ones you are more least likely to get big wins to the higher return features.
You can choose to pick only one, and then guarantee that bonus only (though not the frequency). Personally we like three for variety.
5. Low wins - Free Spins Bonus: Get 3, 4 or 5 free spins symbols on reels 1, 3, and 5 and you'll trigger 10, 20 or 30 free spins. The free spins symbols come stacked on reel 1, so getting 5 scatters is not out of the question.
Not that it really matters because these free spin games don't come with anything special, other than the free spin symbol is now wild, so you do get marginally more wins.
Still, it's hard work getting anything decent out of this bonus, and despite our usual love of this feature, in this Rainbow Riches Pick n Mix slot game, it's not worth it.
4. Low/Mid wins - Magic Toadstool: 3 scatter mushroom symbol will trigger the normal magic toadstool bonus. 4 will trigger the super magic bonus.
In the first instance you are awarded 3 pick out of a field of 24 toadstools. You'll either find a multiplier or a fairy under there - but it's really the fairy you want as she uncovers the toadstools around you, leading to more wins.
The super magic toadstool bonus simply has bigger multiplier hiding under the mushrooms.
3. Medium wins - Road to Riches: From the original Rainbow Riches game, you should immediately recognise this bonus the moment you trigger it with 3 leprechaun symbols anywhere on screen.
You've got a road of gold that leads to a pot of gold worth 500x your line bet. Along the roads are multipliers - press the spin button to see if you move along the road from 1 to 6 spaces, or collect and go home.
If you catch 4 symbols, instead of 3, you get bigger multipliers on the road to riches.
4. Medium to high wins - Cash of Crops: We prefer the Road to Riches, to be honest, but there's no doubt there's more wins in the cash crop bonus.
Get 3 or more leprechauns with a rainbow symbols on screen, and what you get is an instant cash bonus. All 50 coins on screen will spin, but only some will fall on a multipliers.
You then click to spin a singular coin where you either 'go on' to the next level, or you collect. The levels are:
If you trigger the bonus with 4 scatter symbol (instead of 3) you are guaranteed a 'go on' to get to level 2.
5. Medium to high wins - Pots of Gold bonus: 3 or more pots of gold with rainbow symbols anywhere on screen triggers a simple instant cash bonus.
Here the Leprechaun will do a little jig and you'll get either a gold, silver or bronze pot of gold. Guess which are worth more?
The gold pots are worth 500 times your line bet, the silver pots between 120x to 200x, and the bronze pots between 70x to 100x.
If you trigger this bonus with 4 scatter symbols (instead of 3) the bronze pots disappear, making it more likely you'll win a higher value pot.
Though this Rainbow Riches Pick n Mix mobile slot game might, at first, seem complicated, with multiple betting options give you better returns, and multiple bonuses giving you better or worse chances at big wins, once you find your settings, you'll love every spin.
Because it's a game that will be tailor made for you, with the feature you love, and the kind of returns that allows you to play for far longer than you expect.
If creating these settings sounds too exhausting, we'd recommend the Super Monopoly Money slot, which gives you choice but less need to think.
