Grab your hog and welcome the open road as you travel along route 66, enjoying the simple pleasures of the wind in your air, the growl of the wild symbol and the roar of your scatter engine in the Reel Thunder mobile slot.
If you’ve played other Microgaming slots you’ll notice a subtle difference with Reel Thunder – the spin and bet button have moved to the side of the screen. This means two things: one, it’s easier to change your bet and spin if you are holding your mobile phone in your hand and using primarily your thumbs. Secondly, the game reels are smaller than on other Microgaming slot games.
Thankfully this isn’t a huge problem for a slot, which due to its simplicity, doesn’t require a lot of space to be impressive. Much like the other recent release 5 Reel Drive, both looks and plays the same. From the grumbling Harleys and the zing of electric guitars to pancakes, fried breakfast and hot dogs, Reel Thunder mobile slot has all the classic Americana feel that those of us who have never been to the states feel is correctly American.
So the theme works. Does the slot? More or less. However, though it hits often enough that you’d think it would score higher on our list, Reel Thunder mobile slot lacks enough punch to keep us entertained for any length of time. With only scatters and wilds to keep you company, you need the intensity of knowing that you’ll hit it big anytime now in order to get the real rush of the reels. Which you don’t get here if you are on the lower scale of the betting range.
Talking of which, the betting range is also a little awkward, allowing only for bets of 2.25, 4.50, 9.00 and 18.00 in cash. It’s that strange range of not quite low enough for beginners or penny betters, but not quite high enough for real big gamblers. And it has to be said, this slot feels far more at ease when you are willing to bet that $/£/€18 a spin, with the thrills and wins feeling far more satisfying.
So not as great as we would have hoped, but redeemable if you are willing to go up to the higher end of the betting scale.

Wild Symbols: Not sure what this symbol is meant to be... a tattoo of a heart, with golden wings and exhaust pipes? Either way, it substitutes for all symbols except scatter.
Scatter: The engine block scatter symbol will soon be your favourite as it shows up often enough to keep your balance purring like a new born hog. Scatter wins are multiplied by total number of credits staked.
Reel Thunder mobile slot is certainly one for those who like to bet a little higher than usual and prefer their reels simple and American style. The new buttons on the side of the screen decreases the impact of the graphics, but as it's such a simple mobile slot anyway, it still holds strong in the palm of your hand.
However with 5 reels and 9 paylines, Reel Thunder should have been just a little more exciting - even without the bonus features. Both the original Thunderstruck and Ladies Night are 5 reels and 9 paylines, and are far superior as mobile video slots - and all they have as extra is a free spins bonus round. Even still, if we wanted simplicity, we would have probably still rather gone to the far superior Break Da Bank classic slot.
We are not saying it's a bad mobile slot and it will certainly keep you entertained for a few spins. but you'll soon be heading to the other ones we've suggested when you fancy a longer play time session.
