This Steam Tower slot isn’t punk enough to be edgy, but casual gamblers will enjoy a video slot that stays steady rather than climbs anywhere.
As soon as we started playing on this NetEnt Steam Tower slot game we were torn. We could get the appeal. We could. But in the end, it wasn’t quite appealing enough to get an average 3 stars.
Here’s our reasoning and why you might still enjoy playing the Steam Tower mobile slot with its Free Spins, Stacked Wilds and Multipliers, despite our misgivings.
The theme of the Steam Tower mobile slot is classic fairytale. If the fairytale was set in victorian England where you battle giant lizards with steam powered weapons.
Your main character is the moustachioed grappling hook wearing gentleman. His hook also happens to be the slots wild symbol, whilst the man himself also shows up stacked across the five reels.
The reason we bring him up, is that all you are doing is waiting for the stacked wild to show up – because he triggers the free spins.
Otherwise you’re just spinning, winning a little, losing a little, not moving much of anywhere.
Thank-god then, that we could barely go through 50 spins without hitting the free spin bonus feature.
However, if you’re an experienced slot player, this should start ringing massive alarm bells in your head.
Here you’ll be climbing the tower in a bid to rescue the damsel in distress from the red fire-breathing dragon.
There are 16 floors in total and potentially, if you get to the top by winning all 42 of the free spins, a 7x multiplier.
So what could we possibly dislike?
For a Steampunk slot, this real money game doesn’t actually have much of an edge.
Oh sure, there’s that dragon at the top, with the 7x multiplier and 1,000 coins reward. But the chances of getting past floor 8 are tiny.
Mostly, you’ll be lucky to get to floor 5 or 6, which only comes with a 3x multiplier, or about 50x your bet wins.
Of course, because the free spins trigger so easily, many a times we’ve walked away with 20x, 10x, or even 5x out bet.
That in itself wouldn’t be a problem, but for us, it killed the anticipation of the slot. We’ve entered the bonus game so often, that after a while we gave up hope of ever seeing that Dragon and the free spins lost their glamour.
Steam Tower video slot is, we think, best for casual gamblers or beginners to the game. You won’t win much, but you won’t lose much. Perfect for conservative gamblers who are tentative about betting on online slots.
Once you are ready to move up a level, try the Fruit Shop slot, or the pretty Lights slot machine.

Wilds: The green grappling hook is the wild symbol and substitutes for all other symbols. It's also particularly important during the free spins, but we'll get to that.
Stacked Wilds: The main hero is the stacked wild symbol, and if he covers one or more whole reels, you'll get some decent wins AND trigger 10 free spins. However, he doesn't show up during the free games themselves.
Free Spins: So you trigger the free spin games with the stacked wild. Good for you! You are now on floor 1, onto your long, long climb to floor 16.
The way you climb is that every time you get a simple wild symbol on the reels, it moves you up a level and gives you an additional 2 free spins.
You can see why you run out half way can't you? However, if you manage to get high enough, you can get some decent and lucky wins. We even hit 80x our bet a couple of times, and obviously you can hit more.
If by some miracle you get to the 16th floor, (we want screenshots), you'll get a bonus reward of 1,000 coins multiplied by your bet level.
Personally, we got bored playing on the Steam Tower Touch mobile slot far too quickly.
The graphics aren't as impressive as on the online version of this game, and the free spins lose their charm after you get half way up the tower for the umpteenth time.
That said, it certainly keeps your balance steady and newcomers to NetEnt slot machines will enjoy aiming to kill that dragon at the top of the tower and catch that big reward.
Try it for yourself at one of our recommended NetEnt slot sites and see how far up the tower you can climb.
If you're still in doubt, then we recommend the Jack Hammer slot machine for something with a bigger punch.

The theoretical return to player rate is a high 97.04%.
The Steam Tower max win is set at 2,000x your total bet which at a min bet of 0.15 per spin is 300 in cash and a maximum bet of 150 per spin is 300,000 in cash.
The Steam Tower volatility is around the medium mark offering a good mix of small and big wins.
