We were really impressed by the Superman film slot by Playtech. It brought back all sorts of wonderful nostalgia, whilst still bringing in great features and game-play.

So of course, we expected great things from this Superman II slot game, mostly because of the movie sequels, it’s by far the best.

And at first, it has all the right elements.The graphics are good, all the main characters are back, and the soundtrack is as epic as ever.

We even smiled in glee as Superman flew through the five reels givings us extra wilds randomly on any spin.

It didn’t take us long to realise the massive flaw in this Superman 2 slot game.

Considering this is a slot game about a hero from another planet battling 3 criminal Kryptonians, you’d thing the action would be flowing.

But, unfortunately, the bonus games are ridiculously hard to trigger. We played 300 spins at one point before they hit.

Sure, mostly they hit once every 150 to 200 spins, but still it’s hard work.

Meanwhile, you’re just spinning away at the reels, not winning much, hoping your slots budget will last long enough to get you to the main event.

That said, if you do manage to hit the bonus feature, you’ll randomly be allocated any of 5 great features. Not all are as great, but all have the potential for some decent size wins.

We write our favourite down in the slot features below, but the Battle for Metropolis click me game gave us decent 70x our bet wins, and the Phantom Zone free spins with huge wilds and multipliers has the biggest win potential.

But the problem comes, much like in the Microgaming Bridesmaids slot, with the fact you can’t choose which of the 5 features you get to play.

So you can wait ages to trigger any fun wins, only to get a sub-standard feature where you only walk away with about 20x your bet.

If only we’d had a little more choice, or gotten the feature more often, this might be worthy of the DC jackpot slots collection.

As it is, it’s a fairly poor follow up to a great game.

Wild: The Superman logo is wild and replaces all other symbols on the reels except the daily planet bonus symbol.

Superman II Slot Wild Feature: At any point, Superman can fly over the reels in any direction, turning 2, 3 or 4 symbols randomly wild.

Daily Planet Headline Bonus: Get a Daily Planet on reels 1, 3 and 5, and you'll get any one of 5 possible bonus game features.

Our favourites, from least to best, are:

• The Lois and Clark Bonus: A fairly generic pick me game, where you need to collect 5 of the same colour to win one of 5 prizes. Mostly you get about 500 to 750 coins.
• X-Ray vision Free Games: You get 15 free spins. When an Xray symbol shows up on screen, it will become wild and add 2 additional wilds on reels 2 and 4. We've actually had some good wins here, but generally end up with about 20x your bet.
• Skyline Fight Free Games: You get 10 free spins with a 1x multiplier to begin with. If Superman shows up, he freezes the free spin counter. If he shows up again, he increases the multipliers by 1, up to 5x maximum. If General Zod shows up, the counters all reset and the free spins are unfrozen.
• Battle for Metropolis: This is a stage click me bonus, where you fight the villains over the Metropolis rooftops and pick from shields. The further you go, the bigger the prizes available. This can be hit or miss, but we've surprisingly gotten some decent returns on this fight.
• Phantom Zone Free Games: You win unlimited free spins, where the phantom zone will occupy a different 2x2 area on the reels and act as a wild. If that wasn't enough, you can collect different power ups, specifically 2x to 3x multipliers. Be careful though, if you collect the bomb power up, the unlimited free spins end.
