There’s a mad scientist about and he’s one step closer to bringing down humanity with jackpots of wins thanks to this Volts and Bolts mobile slot by ShuffleMaster.
Volts and Bolts is a 5 reel 3 row, 50 payline video slot with wilds, 2 scatter symbols and 4 jackpots.
We start with such a simple and uncomplicated sentence because as we have it a one-star review we need you to understand: this isn’t a terrible game.
It’s just… boring. That’s the worst we can say about this Shuffle Master game, and it got one star because we can’t imagine actually playing again.
There are some nice details in this Volts and Bolts slot. Like the octopus in the tank moving ever so slightly from time to time.
The volts are the battery wild, whilst the high paying robot symbol is the ‘bolts’ in the title, with brains in jars, cogs and manuals littering some very well themed reels.
From the Manic Millions slot to Madder Scientist by Betsoft Gaming, this theme has been done before, and this slot game doesn’t add anything particularly unique to it, but it’s still a well-done theme.
There are 2 bonus features; one is the 12 free spins on 3 scatters, with slightly richer reels as reel 3 now only contains 2 symbols.
This doesn’t show up often.
You know what’s even rarer? The 5 free spins you get for finding 6 robot symbols anywhere on the reels.
At this point, any further robots that show up will be held in place and turn into mega symbols and payouts are based on the number of adjacent locked robot symbols.
You know how we said the 12 free spins don’t show up that often.
Well, we played this video slot for 2 hours and never triggered the robot bonus once. And whilst we usually like to stick it out so we can do a thorough slot review, we just gave up in the end.
That’s because the robot bonus is the way to trigger one of the four jackpots in this casino game, which can be up to 5,000 times your bet.
That’s huge, but doesn’t change the fact that we were bored, bored, bored spinning this 50 payline slot machine will little payoff, a few wilds, and very few bonuses.
Personally, we found Dancing Drums by Shuffle Master to be far more interesting, or maybe even Gold Lab by Quickspin if you want a mad scientist flare.
That’s our recommendations, but if you want a shot at that 5,000 times your bet jackpot, we couldn’t blame you either.

Wild: The Battery is wild, can appear on any payline, and will substitute for all symbols over the 50 paylines to create wins. It's plentiful, so that's one good thing.
It won't replace the scientist or robot symbol.
Robot Bonus Spins: Land 6 or more scattered robot symbols on the reels and you'll trigger 5 free spins.
These robots will be locked in place and more will be collected when they land during the bonus game.
At the end of the bonus spins, payouts are awarded based on the number of adjacent locked robots.
A Mini jackpot will reward 20x bet, Minor jackpot 100x bet, Major jackpot 2000x bet, and Grand jackpot 5000x bet.
Does Volts and Bolts break the rules of slot machines like Abracardabra slot? Does it have low payouts like Sweet Alchemy? Or maybe a terrible theme like Football Frenzy game?
No, it doesn't.
It's a 5x3 reel slot with wilds, scatters and free spins. It's got 4 jackpots, and you can win up to 5,000 times your bet, with a fun familiar theme.
And yet... and yet... playing it didn't inspire any thrills. The free spins are impossible to find, and because the jackpot mini-game actually triggers one of the four jackpots, that's even rarer to trigger.
So what you are left with, mostly, is a 50 payline slot on mobile with wilds and scatters and low to mid payouts. It's ok. It's not going to make anyone's day, like, maybe The Mask by NextGen might.
Just saying.
