We’ve not often reported on Rabcat Gambling games, though we’ve enjoyed reviewing their slots for a little while now. They are fairly new in the gambling scene and wanted to see if they would last.

What we know about the North Storm slot

Why are we so sure that this will be stunning? More stunning, we suspect, that even the likes of NetEnt games or IGT slots.

They are at once a brand new company and a massive household name. Because whilst you may not know all their slot games, you’ll probably have seen their work. They started their life as one of the biggest digital art content providers for the video game industry.

If you don’t believe us, they make artwork for little games like Fortnite, Overwatch, Grand Theft Auto, Forza and Spiro. They’ve been working for years with giants like Blizzard, Disney and Ubisoft.

In short, this is going to be one beautiful slot from a studio that knows how to make graphics and animations. But will it be any fun to play?

The theme, in case it wasn’t quite obvious by the images, is one we should all be fairly familiar with. You are heading to the North, at a time where warriors were kings and only a prayer to Odin may get you home alive.

That’s right, this is a Viking slot machine where massive rune stones come crashing down onto your screen with a resounding thud.

The wind is blowing and the background is almost post-apocalyptic. Perhaps we are looking at the present-day, looking out onto a wintery landscape where only a few towering statues are left to show that this warrior culture had ever existed.

That is until you come along and start lining up those rune stones just right. Then, the gods of old awaken. Thor himself will destroy the stone in a lightning display that will make your heart skip a beat.

The question on our minds, of course, is what priceless fortunes have they left behind and can you grasp the treasures from Thor’s mighty hammer?

Will this North Storm slot be any good?

We like to be positive people. We could sit here and tell you it’s going to be a big pile of hot garbage, just for effect, but what would be the point?

We could even say that this seems curiously close to games like the famous Gonzo’s Quest slot, or the copy by Microgaming Lara Croft Temple and Tombs. So if it’s just a pretty copy of a game we’ve seen before, what’s the point?

Instead, as this is a preview and as we’ve not played it before, we are going to stay positive and say that Rabcat has surprised us often in the past, and may yet surprise us one more time. Here’s why.

Smaller multiplier but a better paytable?

So the first thing you’ll notice is that the multipliers are a lot less than in the likes of Gonzo’s Quest or Lara Croft. In the free spins, the multiplier only gets to 8x rather than 15x.

But that’s only going to be a problem if the value on the paytable is the same or less, or the wins come less often. Which we don’t think it will be.

We can’t vouch for the paytable, but we can vouch for the wins. This is a medium variance slot machine, which means it’s going to be a little more ‘even’ in wins than the two games we mentioned above. Probably why the multipliers are a little less.

The other good news is that we’ve seen footage of the game with a big win during the free spins reaching over 3,800 times the bet in a single spin. Which means that there is hope here for that paytable as well.
