Play'n GO have announced the release of a different type of slot machine from what you might expect from this mobile software provider.

The Gemix slot is due to come to your online and mobile screen sometime around… we can’t tell you. Why? Because it’s in the process of being tested and we may give you false information if they need to keep it in production a little longer.

Let’s just say that it’s very close to when a certain Game of Thrones slot will be released. One could even say that it might be the day after.

But one really won’t say anything much further in case the Play’n GO slot gods come down upon us.

Instead, let’s have a look at what we can expect from this new slot game.

So what this new Play’n GO mobile slot all about?

When we first got the brief about this new mobile phone slot game, we weren’t hugely impressed. Reason being all we saw was that it was a 5×5 grid of gem symbols, falling on top of each other in a grid.

In short we assumed it was another copy of one of their recent releases Golden Ticket, which itself was a copy of the popular Energoonz slot, but basically ripping off the most famous gem-bursting slot of all Starburst.

And we were in no mood to write about yet another copy. We understand why you would want to re-theme your most successful game, but come on Play’n GO, give us a little variety!

Turns out, we were 100%, completely and totally wrong. The Gemix slot machine has only a passing resemblance to the three we just mentioned.

Trust Play’n GO to surprise us once again.

A multi-world adventure

To be fair, we only have a small amount of information about this Gemix mobile slot, so we can only tell you what we’ve heard, but not the exact game play.

There are three levels to the game. The dark miner’s world, the pink and pretty princess world, and the golden luxury of the wizards world. We suspect this is more a change of scenery, as the game will work the same in terms of getting wins and wilds.

What each holds is a special world bonus, which you get by bursting gems in the right patterns. Much like you would in Betsoft’s Sugarpop slot in fact.

Each of these world bonuses will be different, and we suspect, with different levels of how much you can win, with the wizard level giving you the highest potential.

Crystal and super charged wins

And much like Sugarpop, you’ll need to get a cluster of 5 or more of the same gem, for them to ‘burst’ and get more falling from above to replace their fallen comrades. This can lead to a chain reaction of wins, which is the whole point.

Destroying 20 of them will give you what they call the ‘crystal charge’ and 40 gems gives you a ‘super-charge’ that holds a 5x multiplier on all the prizes for that round.

Which makes us belief that this is going to be a fairly low variance slot. You can expect those kind of chain reactions, without hitting the wins often, but not very high.

Whether that supercharge or the world bonus will give you enough hope of a big win to make it worthwhile, will be something we will have to wait and see.

Are we excited for Gemix?

Sure. We doubted that Energoonz would be any good, but the more we played it, the more we loved it.

It does tread that path of being a little too close to ‘video game’ rather than ‘video slot’ and Gemix certainly seems to take it one step further, but let’s be honest… as a mobile slot machine, this is not always a bad thing.

After all, if you can spend hours playing on Candy Crush Saga and / or Angry Birds, but win nothing, why not instead swap to something that has the potential to give you a little extra cash.

The theme might let it down

If we had to critique, having looked at the artwork, is that the princess level might be several doses of syrupness too much. We don’t care if you’re the girliest of girls, that’s too much pink on an already pretty girly gem-bursting theme.

But hey, the good news is that there’s another two worlds to enjoy, even if you have to ‘endure’ the barbie pink wide-eyed princess for a few rounds. And this is the girl of the Lucky Mobile Slots team talking by the by, before you jump to conclusion that we have too many balls to appreciate pink.

Still, let’s wait and see what they do with the artwork.

Where can I go play?

Several of our Play’n GO casinos will get the new Gemix slot early on.

The one we’d recommend right now is Vera&John. They’ve recently added WMS slots to their collection of software, and have a very interesting and different offering to players, from NextGen Gaming, to Microgaming and Betsoft.

They also give you 10 free spins on sign up (exclusive to us – so you are welcome) and a higher deposit bonus of 100% up to £$€500 on your first deposit.

They will also release that Game of Thrones mobile slot around the same time (no biggy, just probably Microgamings biggest release of the year), so you can enjoy a wide variety of games and be the first to try these new slot games as soon as they come out.

You know it makes sense.
