Update 22/11/2016: You can now play the Turning Totems slot at Casumo casino ahead of it's official release date.
Thunderkick Gaming are releasing their Turning Totems slot game on November 30th 2016, and whilst it might look familiar, that familiarity is only skin deep...
It’s not unusual for a slot game provider to use a popular theme and use it again for a sequel.
Equally Yggdrasil are just planning to release Vikings Go Berzerk on the 23rd of November, using a similar theme to their Vikings Go Wild slot game.
What doesn’t usually happen is for a provider to scrap a game completely, re-use the theme, and change all the mechanics behind the game.
Ladies and gentlemen, we present to you the new, face-lifted, Turning Totems mobile slot by Thunderkick.
Turning Totems was out way back when Thunderkick first start producing gaming slots; it was one of their first in fact.
Except, chances are, you would never have played as it was only available in a very few, limited, casinos online.
So some of you might recognise the Thunderkick slot symbols above, as that hasn’t changed one bit.

You still get the cute little indian kid on the side of the reels, magically spinning the totem symbols to reveal new symbols on each bet.
The desert landscape brings out the best of this American red-indian slot theme, whilst we have no doubt that the wind and chirping crickets will add to the atmosphere of this cute little slot.
That’s right folks. The original Turning Totem slot game had a ‘blank symbols’ – ie. a symbol that didn’t pay out.
Reasons for this is that the original game didn’t have paylines, instead you got wins depending on how many of the same symbols you got on screen – ie. you could get a 15 of a kind win for having one symbol on all 5 reels.
The trick was to get 5 or more of the same symbols, and then you’ll get a free re-spins with those winning symbol ‘sticky’ till you got no more of that symbol.
A bit like a more convoluted Jack Hammer slot game, as you only need 3 symbols in that game to get sticky wins.
The problem with the original Turning Totem video slot was that it was, to be honest, just a little on the basic side.
Sure you got those sticky symbols, but getting 5 or more was as much hard work as trying to get your land back after it’s stolen by western settlers.
Plus, there was nothing much else going on, so after about 10 or 20 spins, if a big win didn’t happen soon, you soon started wondering if this desert landscape would turn your wallet into sand.
Enter the new Turning Totems slot 2.0.
Out went to blank symbol that didn’t pay anything, in come in other brighter colourful symbols representing different spirit animals and faces.
Out went the need to get 5 symbols on the reels, instead 3 symbols or more on a payline would give you a little something in your pocket.
And if that wasn’t enough, the Turning Totems video slot reels will now pay from left to right, and right to left, giving you, potentially, more chances at wins.
This is starting to look good.
Follow this if you can:
Basically, it sounds like you slowly build up the anticipation and wins as you get more and more thunder reels and, eventually, the free spins… before you start from the beginning again.
Slot game software providers do not decommission slots lightly.
Usually it’s because they lost the rights to a brand (so when IGT had to give the Monopoly brand to WMS to create slots like Super Monopoly Money, for example), or because they’ve found a fault with the mechanics of the machine.
This isn’t either.
This is unusual as Thunderkick have made a conscience decision to change the mechanics of the game completely keeping the theme.
Now, we don’t know exactly why they’ve done that, but we can take a guess.
The original Turning Totem slot came out right at the dawn of Thunderkick. They were still finding their feet and had but a handful of games to their names.
In comparison, their first attempts at slots looked rather poor, and (we suspect) players just weren’t playing.
That said, the theme was pretty enough, so why not use the animations and try a new more interesting game mechanic?
Because available at mobile casinos it will be, which is always nice to know.
But more importantly, especially for those who never played the original, this new, improved slot game has far more intricate features.
In short, we can only see improvements from what was a fairly boring generic simple slot, to a far more clever, action packed game.
Of course, only time will tell whether that’s true or not.
Turning Totems will be out at all good Thunderkick casinos come the 30th of November.
However, you don’t have to wait that long to enjoy some of their best mobile phone games.
In fact, Casumo casino had them all before anyone else, and are always happy to push these intriguing machines, meaning you get first pick – usually before official release.
Plus you get 200 free spins and £€1,200 in bonus money over 5 deposit to try them out. Plenty to keep you going till the 30th of November.Start Playing at Casumo »
